Colour Grading

I used Photoshop to edit and colour grade the photograph, this would help give a new dynamic feeling towards the image and make it even more pleasing to everyone than the original image. The first image it was a simple step in colour grading because it would involve changing the entire photograph to a black and white colour grade. The reasoning for this colour correction is to give the image an "old era style" of imagery where the technology they used years before colours were introduced into cameras.
The theme of the image was guilty pleasures, where the photographs would represent an object or something in the image that would give people that pleasure. I selected this image due to the fact that it is a simple shot, but the background behind the cup makes it standout more. In addition for the shot looking great the green steps match the colour of the Starbucks logo, which helps make the cup the centre focus of the photograph.
The second image i decided to change the colour of the cup, the reason for this colour changed is down to having the cup being a different colour to its original to see if other colours will work together and give a new meaning to the cup, for example it could be used as an advertisement for Cancer Research UK.
The final image I decided to have the grass and the logo in a dark shade of blue and keep the cup to its original colour, this is to show that I can change the backdrop of images and still be able to try different backgrounds for the image, with their being an object in the centre of the image it is easier to edit the background and see the difference between colour combinations.
Kinetic Typography
The Kinetic typography is a video which has audio from the television series FRIENDS. The audio clip gives me enough to work with, there is multiple ways to create the typography and I've decided to have the words displayed on screen have different motions throughout the audio clip. There are motions that are done to compliment the audio and to have it making sense into what is happening in the audio. The main example is where Ross shouts "Turn". The motion would be for the word "Turn" to actually rotate 180 degrees for every time the word "Turn" is said. The typography has many layers in the After Effects, where each word has been adjusted to the situation in the audio clip. I have tried to change the animation for every time the word "Pivot" is said, the animation will try and match the way the word is said, so if he is shouting the word then the text will be bigger and another example would be that he lingers onto the word. The word would be dragged across the screen while shaking up and down to give that feeling that he is crumbling while lifting a sofa which is the main task that they are doing.
Title Scene Sequence
This title sequence had multiple layers of effects that can be used to distort an image and change how the image is seen. This sequence had different clips from actors portraying a role where it can be edited into a title scene sequence, some of the effects that were used were; grunge and paper. These effects would change how the entire title sequence would look and feel for the audience. The effects gave the image an old television quality where the screen would be fuzzy and it wouldn't be crystal clear image but the image would still be in high quality. I picked these shots out of the folder provided because there was enough space on either sides of the clips to display a low opacity mask of the same character but in a different scenario. I think the masking could of been done a bit better, but it still looks neat and in good quality. This effect gives the title sequence another dimension on what the viewers can see and what they think about the characters at first viewing. That's why i chose the women drinking the bottle of wine and then to have a mask showing her walking about wondering, I was hoping this would give the feeling that she is struggling and alcohol is a big factor in her life. Then with the other two characters i have selected are catalysts to support the women, The man looks depressed and has the same type of movement and expression with the masking to match the women's mask. I tried to build a relationship between the two just by the title sequence to make the audience believe that something is between the two. Then the final character is more of a comedic character to break tensions but is still an important character, I have made him appear as a strong character, so he wouldn't look like a waste of time in the title sequence. The final shot I needed to have a shot where there was enough space to insert the title but as well I needed to have movement in the shot, therefore the final shot looks well for what I wanted out of a title sequence ending.
Hidden Worlds

The inspiration for this piece of work was down to the different streets that are in town in Liverpool. With each street there were signs that were hidden and within these streets were different buildings etc that were unusual, creative or hidden themselves. This gave us the idea to produce this piece of work into three sections which were; Street signs, Buildings, Artworks. With this style of video it gave many opportunities to have multiple different locations to shoot from town central to the Baltic triangle, as well there were plenty of street signs to find while moving from central to the Baltic. We wanted to give a wide range of camera techniques to capture these buildings etc. We opted to have pull focus shots on the artwork and have variety between ECU to LS for the street signs and the buildings, this would make the video more enjoyable to watch and be appealing to for different audiences. We decided to have the shots be between 2-7 seconds to have it in a montage format of video, this then helped us get more interesting shots and to have three different genres for the video. With all of the shots we took time in taking the shots and work on the color grading of the shots if needed in post-production to get the best quality shot we could of had from each shot. In addition all of the artwork is based on Liverpool football club which has a large fan base around the world and it has inspired mnay talented artists to produce these graffiti images in these different locations, even if you are not a fan of Liverpool FC or football in general the artwork is still amazing to look at. The only improvement I would make is to gather more shots in the artwork section of the video to have a bit more variety than just having Liverpool FC artwork but other than that I believe this a good video which shows different meanings of hidden worlds.
Motion Graphics
This piece of work was exciting to produce because it gave me the opportunity to improve my after effects skills and show my creativity while still working under a brief with instructions. All of the work was done on After effects, where it might of been better to edit all of the audio clips and live action footage on Premier Pro, but the video turned out in a good quality and is interesting to watch. The video is similar to a documentary/tribute to Muhammad Ali but there is plenty of motion graphics happening in the video from the title sequence at the end of the video, where it highlighted the boxing record or the best example of motion graphics is the use of an image of a butterfly and bee combined with text to produce a motion graphic on the famous Muhammad Ali quote "Float like a butterfly, Sting like a bee". This quote had to have the most work done on to ensure that it is in high quality and people will understand the choice of movement used for the butterfly and the bee. There are a few things I would do personally to improve this piece of work which is, To have more live action shots were there is audio to be heard instead of having the standard music playing instead of it, I could of added more quotes into the motion graphics to therefore add more kinetic typography into the motion graphic. These would be the changes I would take to improve this motion graphic, but granted the motion graphic is still in good quality and does display motion graphic skills to entertain the audiences, but could have a bit more time to improve it still.
